Author Guidelines

Who can publish?

Publication in the journal Natura Algerica is open to anyone wishing to share their work on Algerian nature, with no publication fees. Contributions are welcomed from researchers, amateur naturalists, and anyone who has conducted a study or observation that meets the journal's scientific standards.

Types of Accepted Publications

The journal accepts original, unpublished manuscripts written in either French or English. Natura Algerica offers a variety of publication formats, including but not limited to the following:

  • Scientific Articles: comprehensive studies and in-depth research.
  • Short Notes: brief communications highlighting significant field observations.
  • Ecological Studies: analyses or research on Algeria's fauna, flora, ecosystems, and biodiversity.
  • Travel Reports: documented accounts of study trips.
  • Biographies: articles highlighting the contributions of influential figures in the field of natural sciences.
  • Bibliographic Studies and Literature Reviews: summaries of books or articles on relevant topics.
  • Book Reviews: analyses of publications in biology, ecology, or environmental sciences.
  • Monographs: detailed publications on a specific genus or family of species.

Particularly lengthy or complex publications may be released as special issues.

Ethical Guidelines and Intellectual Property Rights

Natura Algerica adheres to strict ethical standards to ensure scientific rigor and transparency in publishing:

  • Intellectual Property: The author must hold the copyright for all observations, photographs, and other materials submitted. If certain images or content belong to third parties whose licenses are unclear or do not allow sharing, the author must obtain written permission from the rights holder and explicitly credit them in the manuscript. The editorial board reserves the right to request proof of ownership or authorization for any submitted content. We strongly encourage authors to share their observations on the citizen science platform iNaturalist prior to submitting their manuscript. This approach allows for community confirmation of species identification and establishes a clear usage license for their observations and photographs. Additionally, iNaturalist offers an excellent platform for expanding knowledge about observations through the expertise of its large community.
  • Copyright: Authors retain full copyright over their publications. By default, publications are shared under a Creative Commons CC BY-NC 4.0  license, allowing non-commercial use with proper attribution. If an author wishes to apply a specific license to all or part of their publication (e.g., for a photograph), this license must be explicitly mentioned in the manuscript.
  • Conflict of Interest: Authors must disclose any conflicts of interest that could influence the content of their publication.
  • Originality and Plagiarism: Only original works may be submitted. The submitted manuscript must not be under consideration by other journals or publishers until a final decision is made by the Natura Algerica editorial board. Additionally, all submissions must comply with plagiarism regulations.

  • Peer Review by Specialists: Once deemed eligible for review, the article is sent to one or more domain experts for a thorough evaluation. The details of the review process will be communicated to the author during the revision stage.
  • Final Validation: Once the revisions are made, the article is approved for publication.
